2016: A Year In Review - The Hot 45 Chart

Well, it's that time of year again! This is is my second full year of being here in the blogger community and I could not thank you all enough for all the support this year! We have come so far since 2015 and I cannot believe that almost 115,000 people have collectively viewed my blogs these past couple of years! Anyways, I know you all are anxiously awaiting this post! So, here we go!

So, this year there have been almost 300 songs debuting on my chart! That is how much songs that everyone has loved this year! That is crazy, but just hold up, not all songs are eligible for various reasons. Let's start with restriction one.

So, last year the songs that could not be considered on my year-end chart were songs that were on the chart from December 5, 2015-December 26, 2015. Those songs were put up for consideration, but out of the 14 songs in that time, only songs that peaked at #20 or above were considered eligible for this year's chart because of the large number of songs we've had on the chart this year. So, those songs that are not eligible due to this rule are listed below:

  • Sam Smith - Writing's On The Wall
  • Hailee Steinfeld - You're Such A
  • Justin Bieber/Halsey - The Feeling
  • Sam Hunt - House Party
  • Sabrina Carpenter - Christmas The Whole Year Round
Having that done, the nine songs that were saved for eligibility due to this rule are listed below:
  • Cashmere Cat/Ariana Grande - Adore
  • Calvin Harris/Disciples - How Deep Is Your Love
  • Sia - Alive
  • Becky G - Break A Sweat
  • Skylar Grey/X Ambassadors - Cannonball
  • Major Lazer/Ellie Goulding/Tarrus Riley - Powerful
  • Panic! At The Disco - Victorious
  • Little Mix - Love Me Like You
  • Hailee Steinfeld - Love Myself
The next rule this year, due to the large number of chart songs, is that if the song didn't last a month, or three weeks, then it will not be eligible. (Song exceptions are: debut classes from November 26, 2016-December 10, 2016, considering that they have not reached their full potential yet, so they are eligible for the year-end chart). So, here are the songs that are not eligible due to that rule:
  • 5 Seconds Of Summer - Hey Everybody!
  • Coldplay - Adventure Of A Lifetime
  • Pia Mia - Touch
  • DJ Earworm - United State Of Pop (50 Shades Of Pop)
  • Ariana Grande - Wit It This Christmas
  • One Direction - Infinity
  • One Direction - History
  • Rob Thomas - Hold On Forever
  • Timeflies - Once In A While
  • Duke Dumont - Ocean Drive
  • Tiestö/Oliver Heldens/Natalie La Rose - The Right Song
  • Pitbull/Osmani Garcia/Lil Jon - El Taxi
  • We The Kings - The Story Of Tonight
  • Zedd/Aloe Blacc - Candyman
  • Fifth Harmony - The Life
  • Nick Jonas - Champagne Problems
  • The Weeknd - Acquainted
  • Martin Garrix/John Martin/Michel Zitron - Now That I've Found You
  • Phoebe Ryan - Chronic
  • Dove Cameron - Genie In A Bottle
  • Will.i.am/Pia Mia - Boys & Girls
  • Kelly Clarkson/Chloe & Halle/Missy Elliot/Jadagrace/Lea Michele/Janelle Monáe/Kelly Rowland/Zendaya - This Is For My Girls
  • Ruth B. - Lost Boy
  • Fifth Harmony - Write On Me
  • Halsey - Castle
  • Kelsea Ballerini - Peter Pan
  • Ariana Grande - Bad Decisions
  • Sak Noel/Salvi/Sean Paul - Trumpets
  • AJR - I'm Not Famous
  • Martin Solveig/Tkay Maidza - Do It Right
  • Rihanna - Needed Me
  • Dua Lipa - Hotter Than Hell
  • Melanie Martinez - Milk & Cookies
  • Rochelle/Kalibwoy - Way Up
Lastly, the third rule is that any songs that have debuted in the last three weeks of the year (December 17-December 31) are NOT eligible for this year's chart. Any songs that debuted in the weeks of December 3 and December 10 ARE eligible for the chart. December 3 and December 10 songs WILL also be, with the debut classes of the last three weeks of the year, up for first consideration for the chart in 2017. Those special songs up for consideration this year are:
  • Britney Spears/Tinashe - Slumber Party
  • Captain Cuts/Nateur - Love Like We Used To
  • Bridgit Mendler - Do You Miss Me At All
  • Tove Lo - True Disaster
  • The Weeknd/Daft Punk - I Feel It Coming
  • Zara Larsson - I Would Like
  • Zayn & Taylor Swift - I Don't Wanna Live Forever
Lastly, I would like to recognize the songs that hit #1 this year on the chart.
  • Britney Spears/G-Eazy - Make Me... (1 week)
  • Calvin Harris/Rihanna - This Is What You Came For (1 week)
  • Taylor Swift - New Romantics (1 week)
  • Machine Gun Kelly & Camila Cabello - Bad Things (1 week)

  • Fifth Harmony/Ty Dolla $ign - Work From Home (5 weeks)
  • Taylor Swift - Out Of The Woods (5 weeks)
  • The Chainsmokers/Halsey - Closer (8 weeks)
  • Ariana Grande - Into You (8 weeks)
Well, that was a year in review! The special year-end Hot 45 Chart post will be out soon!

Love ya fam!

~ Jack :)
